As a school we are committed to raising money for our charity partner United World Schools . The focus of their work is support children in some of the world’s poorest communities access education for the first time.
We are raising money specifically to develop and maintain a school in Kmaeng, Cambodia and Sarah Bonnell School has raised well in excess of £20,000 since 2015. In 2017/2018 alone we raised £6700!
Due to our continued support, over the last few months, teachers at UWS Kmaeng have received training in using new learning materials to make lessons more interactive. This is something they are now putting in to practice - the students particularly like learning maths with Lego! Students have also been having lots of fun playing in the huge playground and the school has benefitted from a face-lift thanks to the Building Team repainting the school. This would all be impossible without the amazing fund raising activities that our students have been involved in.
It is clear the difference that education is making to the people of Kmaeng village, as they recently celebrated ‘Victory Over Genocide Day’ on the 7th January. On that date school children, parents and community leaders came together to remember the end of the Khmer Rouge regime and celebrate their right to go to school, a right that was denied to many under the regime. It was a great reminder of how important education is, and a great reminder of why our support is some important!
