Curriculum Aims

At Sarah Bonnell we offer a spiral curriculum which develops the students’ Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education enabling them to further enhance their confidence and the contribution they make to the local, national and global community. Form time is an integral part of this and we provide a well-structured and purposeful start to the day through this medium. The curriculum follows the three core subjects of the PSHE Association: health and wellbeing, relationships and living in the wider world. Through these core themes, our form time curriculum promotes leadership, wellbeing, resilience and spiritual, moral, social and cultural aspects of education, and compliments our curriculum and Enhanced Learning Days.

 

Year 7

Term 1: Health and Wellbeing

Core theme: A greater understanding of ourselves and our environment Core theme: Understanding the impact of Relationships
  • H1: to develop our understanding of resilience - what it means, why it’s important and how we can develop it in ourselves.

  • R1: the qualities and behaviours students should expect and exhibit in a wide variety of positive relationships.

  • L3: similarities, differences and diversity among people of different race, culture, ability, disability, sex, gender identity, age, sexual orientation and the impact of stereotyping.

 

Term 2: Friends and Relationships

Core Theme: Physical, Mental and Emotional Health Core Theme: Developing Positive Relationships with Others
  • H7: how to manage growth and change as normal parts of growing up.

  • H6: the causes and triggers for unhealthy coping strategies.

  • R5: understanding that relationships can cause strong feelings and emotions.

  • H13: understanding the benefits of physical activity, exercise and sleep.

  • R7: challenging the media’s portrayal of relationships.

 

Term 3: Living in the Wider World

Core Theme: Career Skills Core Theme: Transition to Year 8
  • L7: recognising that all students have the same rights and opportunities in learning and work as all other people.

  • L10: different types of work, including employment, self-employment and voluntary work.

  • L15: the benefits of being ambitious and enterprising in all aspects of life.

  • R2: develop and rehearse the skills of team working including objective setting, outcome planning and compromise.

  • L2: understand the knowledge and skills needed for setting realistic goals and challenging personal targets.
