Last week we celebrated the European Week of Languages.
A student said to me that every day is “Languages Day at Sarah Bonnell” and she was right. 70% of our students speak another language at home and we offer one of the widest range of languages in the country with 6 languages currently on our curriculum. Our students will have a huge advantage in their future as colleges, universities and employers are looking for candidates who can express themselves in different languages.
Last week we enjoyed an assembly presented by a group of Year 8 students. We also had an International Film Festival where students had the chance to watch films in different languages. The atmosphere was amazing, not ony was it a fun experience for our students, it also educated them on different languages and cultures. “Gracias, Merci, Danke, Grazie” to everybody who made it possible.
“We enjoyed sharing information about our language, country and culture. The students listened very well”. Patricia and Roxana 10L
“The students really enjoyed learning about our language and culture and it made us more confident in presenting too”. Laura and Lucia 10A
“It was a good opportunity for us to gain some leadership skills as well as having fun. We enjoyed presenting information about our language to other students”. Susana 10R and Toieba 10N
“It was fantastic to see our students taking part in The European Day of Languages. It was a chance for our native speakers of other languages to really showcase and promote the rich linguistic and cultural diversity that we have here at Sarah Bonnell. Well done!” Ms Begum
