Headteacher's Weekly Message: 19th January 2018

Year 11 Practice GCSE Exams

Today, Year 11 finished an intensive two weeks of Practice GCSE Exams. It’s been nice hearing students talk about feeling proud of the fact they’ve coped so well with the pressure and hearing them talk about feeling confident that they’ve done well. Staff look forward to sharing exam results at the Year 11 Parents Evening and Sixth Form show on Wednesday 31 January.

Digital Leaders have national impact

Our student Digital Leaders were invited to a conference to talk about all the great work they have done with Ms Adel, Associate Senior Leader for STEM, on online safety and how children and adults can stay safe online.  The students were questioned by delegates at the conference on how they have developed their work as digital leaders and how they encouraged other students. They did exceptionally well and had some great feedback.

At the same time there were other student Digital Leaders delivering an ‘On-line Safety’ workshop in school to students. The students who attended this after-school workshop said it had really made them think about how to use social media in a safe a respectful way.

Head Girl Campaign

This week saw the launch of the Sarah Bonnell Head Girl campaigns. With five talented students competing for this year’s prestigious Head Girl position, the girls have been working hard on winning support from staff and students.  The girls have established a campaign group and worked with them to design badges, slogans, leaflets and banners to raise the profile of their manifesto.  This included hustings in the assembly hall on Tuesday 16 January during which the Head Girl candidates presented their plans for the next academic year and offered to answer questions. I was really impressed with their manifesto ideas, confidence and public speaking skills and look forward to Election Day on Thursday 1 February 2018.

Sarah Bonnell’s Got Talent Auditions

This week students were given the chance to audition for the competition ‘Sarah Bonnell’s Got Talent’. Following some auditions we now have got 10 finalists for the competition that are being coached by our talented staff. The final show will be on 28 March 2018 – please come along to support these talented performers.
