Sarah Bonnell talent shines during school show ‘The Wizard Oz’ – Be Proud
After weeks of rehearsals and preparation the school show was performed this week to delighted audiences of friends, family and staff. The Drama and Music staff are to be congratulated on another stunning school show but special thanks must go to Ms Griffiths, Curriculum Leader for Drama, Director and Ms Tipton-Clare, Curriculum Leader for Music, Musical Director for all their hard-work. The girls’ performances were excellent – the Wicked Witch of the North, Dorothy, the Lion, The Tin Man and the Scarecrow all acted and sung with confidence, humour and passion. Well done to our talented Sarah Bonnell performers and staff.
Extended Learning Day 2 – learning together in a different way on Thursday 7 December
Students were involved in a wide range of different activities on the second Extended Learning Day of the school year. Mr Archer, Assistant Headteacher put together a brilliant programme with the help and support of our talented Sarah Bonnell staff. Trips, activities, revision lessons and guest speakers inspired girls in different year groups to get thinking about careers in STEM and PE, deepening their learning in RE, Science and Languages and developing positive attitudes to learning. Thank you to all staff who planned and delivered special events for the girls.
Staff training and well-being day – Friday 1 December 2017
December got off to a great start as Sarah Bonnell hosted staff from across the Newham Community Schools Trust. Staff were inspired to nurture their own sense of well-being and gain ideas about how to put new ideas into practice in their work at the school. Staff had training on time-management, customer service and how to extend and challenge thinking. It was great seeing staff try out some of the activities we normally provide for our students – drumming, swing dancing, table-tennis, yoga and mindfulness. It was an absolutely brilliant day that show-cased how well the three schools collaborate. Thank you to all staff who planned and delivered training for others and special thanks to Ms Paine, Assistant Headteacher at Sarah Bonnell, Ms Doyle, Deputy Headteacher at Rokeby School and Mr Round , Deputy Headteacher at Lister for all their hard-work planning the day for staff at the three schools.
The Christmas tree is decorated with messages of hope.
The Christmas tree went up this week. Year 11 did a great job of decorating the tree, with the help of the Premises Team and Ms Brown, Year Leader for year 11. The red cards tied with green ribbon have messages of hope, wishes for the future and prayers for those less fortunate than us. The messages some girls have written help us reflect on what we can do to build a kinder, fairer and more peaceful world.
On Friday 15 December the school will be taking part in Festive Jumper Day as part of our fund-raising for the school charity, United World Schools. Students and staff will be invited to donate £2 for the privilege of swapping their normal school uniform for a festive winter jumper. The school canteen will also be serving traditional ‘Christmas lunch’.
Term ends on Wednesday 20 December at 1.10pm for students and starts on Wednesday 3 January 2018 at the usual time for all students.
