It has been a great start to the new academic year in the PE Curriculum Area, with many achievements already being made. A special mention must go to the Year 8 Netball Team who convincingly beat Plashet last week and now strongly contend to be Newham Champions this year. I must also mention, Lauren Pitcher (Year 10) who came 4th in the whole of the London region in her Trampolining Competition.
On Friday 25th November, we were privileged to have Gemma Mcghee in from the British Skipping Rope Association to lead on some PE lessons. Gemma showed students footage from Olly Murs' 'Heart Skips a Beat' video that she heavily featured in and she discussed with students how amazing it was to perform on numerous occasions during the London 2012 Olympic Games. Students were involved in learning how to Single Step, Double Dutch, Forward Straddle and perform Two in One Rope. Hopefully, we will be setting up a 'Jump Rope' club in the future - so watch this space!
Extra-curricular clubs are running during lunch times and after school on every single day of the week. In case you are unaware of the clubs that we offer, they are as follows:
- Monday: Badminton Club (Lunch Time) and Year 10 Basketball (After School)
- Tuesday: Indoor Rounders (Lunch Time) and Year 9/10/11 Netball (After School)
- Wednesday: Indoor Athletics (After School)
- Thursday: Year 7 and 8 Netball Club/Indoor Rowing Club (Lunch Time) and Netball Fixtures (After School)
- Friday: Gymnastics Club (Lunch Time) and Trampolining Club (After School)
If there is something that you'd like to come along and try (and haven't done so before), then please feel free to ask your PE teacher for further details.
New Climbing Wall
We have a brand new climbing wall in the sports hall and Mile End Climbing Wall have been training PE Staff on how to use this bright, new and colourful equipment safely.
All students at KS3 and at KS4 will get to have one PE module on the climbing wall by the end of the year. We have created a strong link between Sarah Bonnell and Mile End Wall to hopefully set up an extra-curricular club for students to attend if they wish to further their skill level in this activity area.
